Submitting Hours

Submitting ones volunteer hours is currently required by the Red Cross National Headquarters for the following reasons:
  • By registering our hours we illustrate volunteer commitment in our area.
    • This shows the agency how strong and needed we are.
  • Submitting volunteer hours assists with our area funding and planning from:
    • The United Way
    • American Red Cross National Headquarters
One can submit their volunteer hours daily or at the end of each week. It generally takes less than 60 second to enter volunteer hours for one event, which is great considering all the benefits ones area may see for so little effort.

How to submit volunteer hours:

1. Sign into your Volunteer Connection account at: https://volunteerconnection.redcross.org

2. You will arrive at your home page. Left click on the My Profile tab.

3. On the My Profile page left click the Shift/Hours tab.

4. You should arrive at the Add/Edit Hours page. This is where you will enter information about the hours you spent volunteering.  Left click in the empty boxes to enter your information. In the areas where you see the word Select left click on the arrow, and then left click on the appropriate response.

Activity - Enter the activity
Date - Select the date of the activity
Hours Type -There are two options offered here:
          Worked: The hours spent volunteering.
On Call: The hours one has committed to be available, if needed. An example might be a DAT member who is schedule to go out on a fire run if needed. If you are on a schedule on Volunteer Connection there is no need to submit these hours. When you sign-up for the shift the system will automatically submit these hours this for you. An example of when to select this may be if you covering for a DAT member while they are at an appointment.
Group - What group best fits the activity. For example, if it was related to a Blood Drive you would select the Blood Group that applies. If related to DAT function you would select the appropriate DAT Group.
Hours - Enter hours by rounding to the nearest quarter of the hours. For example:
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM = 2.0 (or 2)
1:00 PM to 3:15 PM = 2.25
1:00 PM to 3:30 PM = 2.50 (or 2.5)
1:00 PM to 3:45 PM = 2.75
1:00 PM to 4:00 PM = 3.0 (or 3)
Comments - This area is where one would elaborate on what they did. For instance, a blood volunteer might note that they were positioned at the computer at the blood drive in the morning and in the after they assisted with pre-booking. A DAT member might enter the address of the fire run and after the run they entered client case work. Other examples might include working a puppet show at a school or speaking at an event.

Once all the information has been entered left click on Submit.

After submission watch above the words Add/Edit Hours for a green band with the words successfully saved hours.  Note: If you have no other hours to enter click on Go Back. DO NOT click on Submit again or the hours will be entered twice.

Repeat the steps for each activity.
